Creative Sound BlasterX Siege M04 – In Depth Review
Before starting my review, I would like to thank Creative. They sent me the Sound BlasterX Siege M04 so I can test it and review it for you guys. Once again thank you for giving me this amazing opportunity.
Creative is one of the leading companies when it comes to audio gaming accessories, but recently they decided to explore another branch of PC gaming accessories. Creative decided to create a high performing gaming mouse. The Siege M04 and the Vanguard K08 were developed at the same time. They share the use of Omron Switches, have the same Aurora Lighting Technology and use the same customization software.
Before we go in an in-depth review, here are my first impression of this gaming mouse.
At first look, the Siege M04 looks like a modern gaming mouse with the additional buttons, but still has a clean and sophisticated look, which I prefer. I don’t particularly like those “transformer” kind of mouse. They just feel weird.
The mouse looked big when I took it out of the box, and since I have small hands for a man, I thought this might be a problem as I would feel discomfort after a couple of hours of use. That was not the case, on the contrary, even after playing a couple of hours of a heavy clicking video game I felt no discomfort whatsoever. Creative did an excellent job for the ergonomic part of this model.
The buttons layout are pretty good as well, on the left side of the MO4 you can find three extra buttons which are easily accessible with your thumb, coming in handy when you use them in your favorite video games. In the middle of the mouse, there’s a button that can cycle through 3 different DPI settings that you saved, a useful feature, especially in FPS games.
The mouse wheel is very smooth and sturdy. In the past, I’ve had mouse where the wheel would break after a couple of months ( I won’t say the company’s name ). The right click and the left click are very responsive as well. As I mentioned above, the mouse shares the same technology has the keyboard, Omron Switches, making it a top-notch gaming mouse.
The cable of this model is very flexible and looks stable, even if you roll on it a couple of times, it will not break, which is perfect for a clumsy person like me. The lighting effects, once you plug it in, are gorgeous, you can customize them in the software later on.

Design And Features
We all know Creative for their fantastic looking headsets. The Siege Mo4 is no different, this gaming mouse offers a sleek and sophisticated look, while still providing all of the moderns mouse features.
Creative designed the Siege M04 to be ergonomic and comfortable for an extended period because we all know gamers tend to play video games for a couple of hours straight. This mouse has a perfect size, even for someone like me who has small but long fingers. The side buttons are strategically positioned for comfort, and they don’t feel awkward when clicking on them.
This right-handed gaming mouse works best with a claw grip, but it can also be used with fingertip and palm grips. The rubberized side panels provide stabilizing points of contact for its users. The long left and right buttons on the upper face cope very well with different lengths of fingers.
This gaming mouse features seven programmable buttons, which compared to other modern gaming mouse is not a lot, but it’s still a good amount to give you the advantage you need in video games. Some of them have pre-defined actions, but you will be able to change them using the Sound Blaster Connect software.
On the left side of the mouse, you will find three buttons labeled “sniper,” “forward” and “back. While the left, right, scroll wheel and DPI switching buttons are all situated on the top of the Mo4. Like I mentioned above, all of these uses Omron Switches which are rated up to 50 million clicks, making it an impressive long lasting mouse for gaming.
The cable is made out of a soft braided cord, which is kinda long and flexible, you will have no problem with cable management.
The mouse switches also have an activation pressure level that reduces the instances of accidental activation. A handy aspect, but especially noticeable on the DPI change switch, accidentally changing DPI in the middle of an intense online can cause a defeat for you and your team.
Similar to the moderns gaming mouses on the market, The Siege Mo4 offers incredible peripheral lighting. The Mo4 embraces this aesthetic, with an ‘Aurora Reactive’ lighting feature that allows the user to define all manner of crazy lighting effects. There are many different color combination and effects you can create with the Sound Blaster Connect 2, but I will go into detail later. The application does not come with the keyboard you will need to download it here.
Creative designed the Siege MO4 using a PixArt PMW3360 sensor giving this gaming mouse a massive DPI range, going from 200 to 12,000 in steps of 100, negating the need for pointer acceleration. However, the user can still define acceleration and deceleration to their preferred setting, but they are deactivated by default.
To be honest, a DPI of 12,000 is way too high for any person’s hand to efficiently use it. The reason behind implementing a large number is to be able to divide it easily. The DPI settings, acceleration, deceleration, sniper DPI and polling rate can all be customized via the Sound Blaster Connect 2 application. We will explore it later on.
The standard setup has the three possible DPI levels set to 400, 800 and 1400, and moves smoothly between using the DPI switching button. One of the thumb buttons is pre-defined as “sniper mode,” meaning it drops the DPI temporarily for precision shooting, this option is handy when playing FPS games.
I’ve personally tested two different games, the first one was Overwatch, I’m not a big fan of FPS games, but I had to test the “Sniper mode” thumb button, and I can say it’s pretty impressive. I tried it with a sniper character, and it helped me stabilize in order to hit those headshots. The on-the-fly DPI switching button is convenient as well.
The second one was League Of Legends, a MOBA genres where a mouse is an essential accessory. This game requires precision and fast button response since you control your characters movement with the right click of the mouse. You can re-bind key abilities on your thumb buttons as well, and you can switch the DPI in-game without alt-tabbing. All handy features to defeat your lane opponent.
Overall, the performance and the sensors can be compared to some high-end gaming mouse model, which is surprisingly good since it’s Creative’s first mouse.
If you read my review on the Vanguard KO8 Mechanical Keyboard, you should already be familiar with the software. If you didn’t read it, we will explore it together right here. First of all, you will need to download the application here, as it does not come with the mouse.
I highly recommend you download this software as it will allow you to fully customize your gaming mouse. You will be able to switch the RGB colors, re-bind buttons, create macros and set up the DPI to your preferred taste. Also, you will need it to update the firmware.
Similar to the Vanguard K08 the application comes with eight different lighting presets and the ability to create and customize your own, down to each keys and the BlasterX logo.
There are four different “Motion” you can choose from:
- Solo, which is the color you choose from a variety of different colors.
- Cycle, this one goes through every color, the title explains it very well.
- Wave, my favorite, this one is a rainbow wave depending on the direction you choose.
- Pulsate, depending on the color you choose this setting to pulsate for 1-2 seconds.
If you’re like me and want for your accessories to match, you could combine the mouse, the keyboard, and the sound bar all using the same preset. Unfortunately, you cannot customize the color on their headset. Keep in mind the color is only for the looks as it adds nothing more to the performance.
That being said, the Software offers multiple customizable options. The “Performance” table is where you can pre-set the three DPI cycle stage of the mouse. For example, the first one could be for when you’re surfing the net or working, the second one for FPS games and the third one for MOBA genre games. Plus you can quickly change them using the on-the-fly DPI switching button situated on the top of the Siege mouse.
You can switch the “Sniper Mode” DPI, as I mentioned above, this thumb button temporarily lowers your DPI settings when clicked upon, to give more stability, hence the name “Sniper.” You can modify the acceleration and deceleration. Both are set to zero by default. The polling rate is changeable as well, but I haven’t played with that option yet.
Last but not least, the macro section, one of my favorite by the way. In this section, you can remap any buttons on your mouse to do another action. You can create macros and shortcuts that can help you while playing video games. For me, I am a hardcore fan of MMORPGs, so I often create macros so I can have easy access to key abilities.
Is there any alternative?
Of course, there is, most PC accessories have alternatives. The real question is, can they compare to the Siege M04? Below I will compare 3 similar gaming mouse so we can see the advantages and disadvantages of the M04.
First of all the mouses above are all in the same price range, making the comparison more accurate. If we look closely at the chart, we can see that all of them offer various RGB lighting effects, all customizable via their software.
The Siege MO4 only has 7 programmable button which is a little less than two other mouses on the board. However, that is not a disadvantage because some people prefer to have fewer buttons to avoid hitting them accidentally. While other gamers need more buttons, for MMORPG games and such.
The MO4 has a maximum of 12,000 DPI, which is very high and as I mentioned above a human cannot efficiently use a mouse on the 12,000 DPI setting, so imagine on 16,000.
Last but not least the weight, the Siege is the heaviest of the 4 mouse on our table. Again this is a question of personal preferences. A light mouse is best for low sensitivity as the momentum build up with heavier mice throws your aim off. You combine that with a high friction pad where it allows you to stop precisely from a swipe and not overshoot on small movements.
With high sensitivity, you can reversely use a heavier mouse because you won’t be swiping and building momentum. The weight, in turn, gives you control over small movements. You combine that with a low friction pad because you do much of the work with your fingers – with high friction pads movements that small often lead to “jumps” where you can’t move by single counts.
My Final Verdict
After testing The Siege MO4 for two whole weeks, I can say with confidence this mouse can compare to those high-end gaming mice on the market. This model was quite a pleasant surprise because Creative is known to design fantastic headsets rather than mouse accessories. Making this mouse a lovely surprise.
I still have plenty of things to test on this mice, but for now, I find this mouse amazing, even after an extended period of time I feel no discomfort, plus it fits very well in my hand. I really love the crazy combination of color you can create with the software. Also, it offers a lot of DPI and macro customization which is perfect for hardcore gamers like myself.
This concludes my Creative Sound BlasterX Seige MO4 Review. This high-end gaming mouse has surprised me, in a good way, since Creative is mostly known for their audio products. With its many features, its ergonomic design, its extra macros, and various color combinations making this mouse comparable to the big names on the market.
The Siege MO4 is an easy recommendation for any gamers out there who want a high-quality gaming mouse which offers top-notch precision. Keep in mind this mouse is a little bit costly, but nothing that will break your budget, as this model is designed for a long lasting life.
