How to choose the perfect laptop for writers – Ultimate Guide

Finding the right tool to do a certain job can be difficult, especially when you have so many choices and options to look for. As a writer myself, I know how hard it is to create content for readers. This is the reason for this article

Processor and RAM

Firstly, any writing laptop needs to have a good processor and a decent amount of RAM.Apple how to choose the perfect laptop for writers
It doesn’t need to be top-level. We’re not talking about a gaming laptop here. But we need something that can easily deal with having a dozen or so tabs open.

Writers often need to do a lot of research for their pieces, as such, you’re likely to be looking at a load of different websites at once. And maybe watching a couple of videos too. You don’t want to experience your laptop slowing down halfway through your research.

I would say you want at least 4GB of RAM. More is helpful as it’ll make your laptop better able to handle more open windows, and run well while doing so.
Concerning processors, you want a decently powerful one, in the region of 2.3GHz ideally.

Excellent Cooling

I know that a good deal of my writing is done, sitting in a nice comfy chair. With a hot drink, and my laptop sitting on my knees. Sometimes this is just more comfortable than sitting at a desk.

I’m sure you’re the same. Cooler Master notepad x3 laptop cooler. However, the problem with this is that it can cause your laptop to heat more than it would if you were sitting at a desk.

With this in mind, you need to make sure that your laptop has decent cooling. Otherwise, you’ll set your pants on fire.

Also, because writers use their laptops for hours at a time, it’s crucial for them not to get too hot. Otherwise, it could seriously affect the longevity of the machine.

Comfortable Keyboard

This might sound like a bit of an odd one. But anyone who has written for hours at a time will know exactly what I’m talking about. Some keyboards, notably smaller, cramped ones, are just uncomfortable to use.

They make your hands and wrists ache, and force you to take breaks so that they don’t seize up. In other words, they can make the very act of working uncomfortable.

It is essential to ensure that your laptop has a comfortable keyboard so that you can use it for hours at a time with no problems.

Our guide will provide you with examples of laptops that have beautiful, comfortable keyboards and workstations. You’ll be able to work all day without problems.

One of the nice things about writing on a laptop is that you don’t have to work in your office. You can write sitting on your sofa while sipping delicious coffee in a café, or even outside if the weather is nice enough.

To make this easier, it’s important that your laptop isn’t too heavy. You don’t want to feel like you’re carrying around a couple of bricks in your bag.

Good Battery Life

I would say you want at least 6 hours of battery life from a good writer’s laptop. Why?

For the same reason, you want it to be lightweight, because you’ll probably want to move around when writing, and you won’t be able to plug your laptop in everywhere you go.

I personally really enjoy writing outside in the sun, something about sitting on the grass with people all around me just puts me in a good mood and inspires me to write. I’ve written some of my best articles while in the park eating ice-cream.

If my laptop didn’t have a decent battery life I’d never be able to do this, I’d be stuck inside all day instead. Some writers are also able to write while commuting between meetings. It’s important to be able just to write whenever inspiration hits and you get a good idea.

For this, good battery life is essential.

Backlit Keyboard backlight keyboard

One nice, but admittedly unessential feature, is a backlit keyboard. For those of you who don’t know what that is, all it means is that the keys on the keyboard have some light coming out from them, which means that in the dark you can see what you’re typing more comfortably.backlight keyboard

This isn’t the most important feature in the world. But it is a nice touch and makes working in the dark a load easier. If you do a lot of work after dark, then this is probably a feature you should be looking for.

So What Would You Recommend?

Well, that obviously depends on what exactly you’re looking for on a writing laptop. Do you do most of your writing at home? Or spend most of your time writing in cafes or away from power supplies?

As I mentioned above, in the end, it all depends on what you need as a writer, do you need a laptop with backlit keyboard, a laptop which has stronger specs, a long lasting battery life? One of the major points for me is the price, that’s the first thing I look at, then I check out the specs, and the last thing I look at is the different features it offers. That is my pattern when I look at something I want to buy.
