Now we are entering an exciting zone, best laptops for writers under $1500, this particular area might not be for everyone as the prices are pretty high. I will be honest you do not need the top-notch gear to do your job correctly, but having amazing gear will facilitate your job.
You might wonder what these monsters have to offer to compare to the lower end laptop for writers. These laptops offer a stronger set of technical specifications. I’m talking about more storage place, a better resolution, a more comfortable keyboard, oh and a longer lasting battery life.
Editor’s Pick: Our big winner here is the ASUS ZenBook Pro UX501VW 15.6-Inch 4K Touchscreen Laptop. Despite the high price of this laptop, the Asus Zenbook offers amazing features for us writers. An excellent backlit keyboard, an SSD hard drive with a lot of space, a great build quality.
The only flaw I found is the battery life, it’s around 6 hours without charging it, which to me is great but it’s worth mentioning.
In this article, I have personally picked five of the best laptop out there, based on the prices and different features they offer for us, writers.

The Zenbook comes with a 6th generation Intel Core i7-6500 2.5GHz, 12GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD hard drive. So it’s incredibly powerful, you can use it for writing as well as gaming, video editing, etc.
It’s a small machine, with a 13-inch screen and weighing only 3.2lbs. While writers who don’t travel much might prefer a bigger laptop with a larger keyboard, if you like to take your laptop out with you like I do, then you’ll enjoy the more portable Zenbook.
It comes with a backlit keyboard (thank God), so it’s brilliant for writers who work in low-light.
Cooling is excellent, and because it’s so powerful, there shouldn’t be any heat at all if you’re just using it for writing. You’ll be able to write for hours on end.
Personally, I’m not a fan of touchscreens and always prefer typing on a keyboard. The inclusion of a touchscreen also inevitably drives up the price. That’s just my opinion, and I’m sure some writers love touchscreens, but I’ve always found them difficult to work with.
This is an expensive laptop. Obviously, we’re in the under $1500 category, so this should hardly be a surprise, but it might be more than most are willing to pay for a writing laptop.
Battery life is only around 7 hours according to the manufacturers. This is a little disappointing for such an expensive laptop.

For a MacBook this machine is extremely powerful, it has a 2.7 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 256GB hard drive. Plenty of power and much more than you would normally expect from a Mac.
It has a relatively small 13.3-inch screen. Some of you will prefer larger screens to write on. Personally, the smaller screen doesn’t bother me.
What’s excellent about the MacBook, and something you notice pretty much straight away is just how comfortable the keys are to type on, it seems like an odd thing to say, but it does feel more comfortable. I don’t know how they do it, but it makes a difference.
It has a great battery life (10 hours), weighs very little for a machine this powerful (3.5lbs) and has a beautiful backlit keyboard. This combination of portability, battery life and the ability to use it at night make it a splendid option for writers.
Runs very coolly as well, you’ll be able to use it at hours for a time with no problems. It’s very expensive! Unless you love Apple products, you can get much better specs for far less money.
Although I’m sure everyone is aware of this, Apple products use a different OS to what most people are used to, so if you buy a MacBook you’ll have to learn to use it.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the 2020-04-03 at 02:48 and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply to the purchase of this product. This machine boasts excellent specs it has an Intel Core i7-6700HQ 2.6 GHz Processor, 8GB RAM, and a 1 TB hard drive. This is much more than what you’ll need for a writing laptop. You can use it as a general purpose laptop as well.
It has a 15.6-inch screen, which is a very decent size. Plenty of writers prefer a slightly larger screen to write on, and the Y700 provides that. It comes with a backlit keyboard, which as I’ve mentioned is essential if you tend to work in reduced light.
The manufacturer states a battery life of around 5 hours. This probably means more like 3.5. Not terrible if you don’t do much writing away from power sources, but if you do it could mean it is dying on you.
This is on the heavier end of most of the laptops we’ve looked at, weighing 5.72lbs. This makes it less portable than some of the models we’ve looked at previously.
I found the keyboard to be a little stiff.

This is a high-end laptop. It has an Intel Core i7-6700HQ 2.6 GHz Quadcore CPU (turbo to 3.5GHz) and a Nvidia GTX960M GPU. As well as 16GB of RAM and a 512 GB hard drive.
It comes with an ultra-high quality 15.6-inch screen. Obviously, you don’t need that for writing, but it could come in useful if you want to do gaming or video editing as well.
Decent battery life, I had it going for about 6 ½ hours without charge, not enough for a full workday, but still pretty good! The backlit keyboard makes it easy to work in the dark.
It’s not super heavy, but at 5lbs it isn’t light either. It’s less portable than quite a few of the other models on this list. This is an expensive model and is right at the top of this price range.
As mentioned it has a touchscreen which I’m not really a fan of and I don’t think adds much for a writer. Having said that some people may like it, and all round the ZenBook is a great product even if it is pricey.

One of the things that I like about most MacBooks is their battery life. And this one is no different. You can use it for up to 9 hours without charge. This means that you can enjoy the freedom to write wherever you want, whether that’s on the bus, at Starbucks or in the park.
13.3-inch screen adds to portability. However, some people may prefer to write using a slightly bigger screen. It also weighs only 3.5lbs and so can easily be taken wherever you want.
As usual, cooling is excellent so you can happily use this MacBook for long periods of time.
This laptop has a backlit keyboard. This combined with its weight, portability and long battery life make it a very impressive product.
As with all of the Apple products, you can get better specs for less money with a Windows option instead. If your primary interest is in writing, then the Mac could be a fantastic (if a little pricey) option. If you’re looking for more of an all-rounder, then you might be better off with one of the others.
Using a MacBook will force you to use Apple’s OS which is probably not something that you’ve used before. It’s not exactly hard to learn, but just something to recognize.
Having the perfect gear for your job is not an easy task, especially when you’re starting out. If you have the money to invest in top notch gear, I’d recommend it as it will facilitate your job. This might lead you to be more efficient in your work.
Like I always say, in the end, it all depends on what you are looking for, what do you need as a writer. Do you need a lot of storage place? Do you need a light laptop for traveling? Do you need a more comfortable keyboard? There’s a lot of different features to look at before getting a laptop for writers.
