Best gaming laptop under $1000 of 2018
A few years ago you would have struggled to find any laptops that could play games at a decent level for under $1000. Fortunately, this is no longer the case, and you can now pick up superb ones for under $1000.
When buying you want to make sure that your laptop has a combination of a good graphics processor (otherwise your games won’t play), a good processor and a decent amount of RAM.
This will ensure that you can play your games on good settings with a decent framerate.
To be honest, most casual gamers would be euphoric with a decent laptop from this group. It’s probably only gamers who play very demanding games and like to do so at high settings that need look beyond this price range.
Editor’s Pick: Our big winner here is the ASUS K501UW-AB78 15.6-inch Full-HD Gaming Laptop. The main reason I chose this one is for the 512GB SSD. The price influences my pick as well. Also, the Asus K501UW offers an amazing set of specs that will bring you the ultimate gaming experience.
Best gaming laptop under $1000
We take a slight step up in price with this dedicated Gaming Laptop from Dell.
They say you get what you pay for, and that’s immediately apparent as we step up one class in the pay-scale. Glancing at the specs might leave you scratching your head at why the price is higher than the previous models listed. But a quick look at the graphics card will tell you exactly why.
This model offers an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4GB graphics processor, which is twice the power of any of the previously reviewed laptops.
Most people (myself included) regard the graphics processor as being the single most important thing for anyone wanting to buy a Gaming Laptop to think about. Having better graphics is so important, it allows you to play higher spec games, more easily, and in more demanding settings.
The Dell provides an excellent 8GB of RAM, this combined with the brilliant (for this price) graphics processor will give you a much greater range of games to choose from. Games like Fallout 4 play extremely well on this machine.
At 256GB the Hard Drive is the same size as the E 15 that we reviewed in the under $500 class. For me, this wouldn’t be a problem, but if you like to play a lot of different games, then you might be concerned about the lack of storage space.
The lack of an i7 as we step up in price might concern some gamers. For me I wouldn’t worry about this, the graphics card is such a key element and by having such a comparatively high spec one the Dell has a great capability to handle mid to high-spec games.
The Inspiron is a powerful machine but has one frustrating little issue. This model boasts 1 TB Hard Drive, so you’ll have plenty of space to store your games! The Intel Quad-Core i7-6700HQ, 2.6 GHz Processor, is an excellent step-up and provides a potentially brilliant gaming experience. 8GB of RAM is very nice.
Fantastic NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4GB graphics processor. On paper, the Inspiron combines all the best elements of the previous class of laptops into one machine. It has the excellent gaming capabilities, the i7 Quad Core and at the same time offers a ton of storage space for your games.
The only real complaint that I have with the Inspiron will probably seem quite petty. But when it happens to you it’s incredibly annoying. My issue is that the fans never seem to turn off! This happens even when the laptop isn’t even warm. This means that if I’m watching a movie, I can often hear the fans in the background.
This also affects the battery life of the machine as the fans are working when there’s no need. Overall this is a phenomenal machine and great value for money, but I must say that the fan does really annoy me. If you think that I’m being silly and a loud fan wouldn’t bother you, then the Inspiron might be a good buy.
This is an excellent, lightweight laptop, with a slightly smaller Hard Drive than I would like.
The first thing you’ll notice when you get hold of the ASUS is the weight. At 4.4lbs it’s a surprisingly light machine, some of the other laptops on this list can weigh almost up to 8lbs. This means that if you fancy watching some films with your laptop on your legs, you won’t have any issues with comfort.
Further, you can easily just stick it in a bag, and off you go, this laptop is extremely portable.
The specs on this machine are great. It has an Intel Core i7-6500U 2.5GHz, 8GB of RAM and a solid graphics processor.
My only real issue with this laptop is that ideally the Hard Drive would be a bit bigger. It’s only 512GB. While this is still pretty good and wouldn’t personally put me off, I do feel that at the price range we’re getting into, it would be nice to get 1 TB of space.
The Larger laptop offers a more immersive experience for hard-core gamers.
This is the first Gaming Laptop that we’ve looked at, so far, that has a screen over 17 inches. Now on paper, the difference between a 15 and the 17-inch screen seems barely worth even worrying about, but when you play on one after the other, you can see that the effect is much greater than you’d think.
If you’re someone who enjoys a wide-screen gaming experience, then this additional screen size could be ideal for you.
This laptop is powerful! It offers a massive 16GB of RAM, along with an i7 6700HQ with 2.6GHz. It will handle the vast majority of the games you want to play with no issues.
This perhaps isn’t surprising for a larger model, but the ROG comes equipped with a decent sized Hard Drive as well, just over 1 TB a good amount of storage for all your games.
It runs quietly!
Most of the issues with this model come down, unsurprisingly, to its size. Firstly it is fairly heavy weighing in at 6.6lbs. This isn’t a shocking amount but is one of the heavier models we’ve looked at and might make it uncomfortable to rest on your knees for long periods.
Having a 17-inch screen also makes this model a little bulkier than the others, you’ll probably need to purchase a new laptop bag and carry case. For most people, this wouldn’t be an issue, but it is worth mentioning.
I was also slightly disappointed that this model only has a 2GB graphics processor, I was hoping that with the additional size of the ROG that they’d be able to sneak in the space for a more powerful processor, but unfortunately not.
I should say though that given the how powerful this laptop is I don’t think the lack of additional graphics power would cause you any problems when playing games, it’s just something to be aware of.
Custom model configured by Computer Upgrade King. The price of this model is excellent. It tends to be available for much cheaper than the other models in the under $1000 class. Great value for money.
Its specs are pretty respectable. It has an i5-6300HQ processor which I would prefer to be an i7 but also has a massive 16GB of RAM which makes up for this. Also has an NVIDIA Geforce 940MX 2GB, so a decent quality graphics card. Not 4GB like some of the other models in this class, but excellent for the price.
Has two Hard Drives, with a combined storage space of 1,128GB. So storage space won’t be an issue.
The MSI has a screen resolution of 1366×768, in my opinion, you will notice this when gaming. Ideally a little more graphics power would be good.
This concludes our list of best gaming laptop under $1000. As you may have seen these laptops will give you an amazing gaming experience as they have great technical specs. You will be able to play most games, maybe not on the highest level of graphics, but still at decent settings.
These laptops are perfect for everyone, whether you are a casual gamer or a hardcore one, these will put a smile on every gamer face, plus they don’t cost a fortune so that you won’t break your budget.
