There’s a good chance your computer won’t be compatible with DDR4 RAM expect if it’s a new build. Make sure to verify your motherboard specifications before you purchase!
But if your PC is compatible, then it’s worth getting DDR4, the price is more or less the same and you’ll find the speed is a little better too. Given that there are no real downsides, it makes sense to get DDR4 instead.
Some might say the DDR4 is better than the DDR3, in fact, both are similar for gaming, the improvements DDR4 makes over its predecessor are minimal for the time being. Maybe in a near future video game will benefit more from a DDR4 memory than a DDR3 one.

The Ballistix Sport is a nice, affordable set of RAM that comes in at a decent speed as well. It ranges in memory size from a relatively modest 4GB all the way up to a huge 32GB.
Regarding price, the Ballistix is pretty economical. Per GB it’s inexpensive, and it’s also a solid set too, so you won’t have it stopping working on you for no good reason.
It has a kind of cool look to it too and is available in red, gray and white so if you like your RAM to be aesthetic then you might like the Ballistix sport.
They aren’t the very fastest but I doubt you’ll notice the difference while gaming. Even so, if you’ve got a load of money to spend and want completely max your RAM out, then you might prefer to get a faster set.
Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 Memory

There’s a great deal of variation available with the Vengeance LPX series. Not only do they come in 4 different color options and three different sizes of memory (4GB, 8GB, and 16GB). But they also come in speeds ranging from 2133MHz all the way up to 3000MHz.
So if you’re interested in super-fast gameplay, you’ve got the option to go all out and get the quickest stick of RAM. While at the same time making sure your RAM matches the rest of your PC.
They also come with a limited lifetime warranty, like most sticks of RAM, which is reassuring and means that if they were to break you’d be covered.
One thing I don’t really like about the Vengeance LPX is the look. For a lot of people how a piece of RAM looks just isn’t important, and I’d agree that it’s towards the bottom of my list of concerns. But compared to some of the stylish alternatives the LPX is pretty bland looking.
The Vengeance also isn’t the cheapest set of RAM available and so I’d probably only recommend it if you could get a deal, or if you want to get 3200MHz RAM in order to play as quickly as possible.

The HyperX Fury is another excellent option for DDR4 RAM.
They’re easy to install, which is great if you’re new to this and they come with an excellent heat spreader, which helps to stop your system boiling over during play.
Kingston is also a reliable brand which is crucial when purchasing anything computer related.
These kits range in size from 4GB to a colossal 64GB. To be honest, the benefits of more RAM when gaming probably starts to top out at around 8-12GBs.
So I wouldn’t say there’s any real point to getting that much RAM. But if you’d like the option, or just feel like showing off, you could do that.
They don’t tend to be as fast as the Vengeance LPX and they don’t have as many speed options either, but 2400MHz is still pretty quick and I don’t think you’d really notice the difference when gaming.
PNY Anarchy 16GB Kit (2x8GB) DDR4 Memory

The Anarchy is a phenomenal looking stick of RAM. It comes in black, and they’ve managed to fade the front of the plastic to produce an almost metallic effect.
This version of the anarchy only comes in 16GB which obviously makes it less than ideal for those of you looking for less than that, but if you’re in the market for 16GB of RAM, then you might like it.
While Anarchy isn’t as established a brand as some of the others we’ve looked at here, they still produce reliable sticks of RAM and are worth considering, particularly if you like the aesthetic.
They’re not the fastest that you can get (they clock in at 2400MHz), but to be honest the difference that’ll actually make when playing will probably be barely noticeable.
As mentioned above DDR3 is similar to the DDR4 regarding performance. If you want DDR4 memory, then you should verify if it’s compatible with your gaming PC. I’d recommend getting DDR4 if you’re building a new gaming PC, it’s a way to future-proof your system in case major performance gains are seen over the next few years.
