Ram is a crucial component of any computer. Without it, it will take you ages to do something on your PC, it will be painful to you and your computer.
Ram or memory is especially important for gaming. Video games require a lot of memory and power from your PC. I’m sure you’ve all experienced your computer “lagging” with a game, stopping and starting, and working at a very low frame rate.
Our list will consist of our top 5 picks for best DDR3 ram for gaming, we picked them as we think these are excellent for gaming.
While DDR3 is an older technology, it’s still very fast, and you’d be unlikely to notice a difference between it and DDR4 when playing. So don’t feel that because your PC isn’t compatible with DDR4 that your computer will be slow. This just isn’t the case.
With that said, here are my picks for the best DDR3 RAM currently available for gaming.
Best DDR3 ram for gaming

The Ballistix range from Crucial is a brand known for its reliability and value for money.
They come in various memory sizes, ranging from 8GB kits, all the way up to a massive 32GB. So whether you just want a little boost in gaming speed, or you’re looking to do a load of video editing you’ll have enough RAM to suit you.
Ballistix comes with a memory speed of 1600 MHz, this is pretty much industry standard speed and while being nothing to write home about is more than good enough for gaming.
The thing that stands out with this RAM is the value for money.
Why exactly they’re cheaper, I can’t say I know. But they offer a combination of great value for money and excellent performance too.
Another great thing about the Ballistix is the ease of installation. Whereas some RAM can be quite difficult to install, the Ballistix works pretty much right out of the box. This is great if you don’t have much experience cracking open your computer and want the installation to be as easy as possible.
The Ballistix also supports overclocking. So if you’re a little more adventurous and fancy souping-up your RAM a little, you might like this feature.
If you’re looking for a good set of RAM at a reduced price, then you might like Ballistix Sport range.
Kingston HyperX FURY DDR3 Memory

Kingston is another brand with a good reputation for producing excellent sticks of RAM.
One of the things about the HyperX Fury that makes it stand out is the cool design and range of colors that it’s available in. While some people won’t be interested in how their RAM looks, for others it’s good to have a wide range of colors, and a cool design which you can match to your computer.
It has a unique “heat spreader” design that helps to maintain a cool temperature during play. This is especially important if your computer tends to heat up, or if you enjoy marathon gaming sessions.
Kingston also is known for producing reliable RAM, but even if it does stop working, the HyperX Fury sticks come with a lifetime warranty as well as technical support if they go wrong.
The Fury comes in two speeds 1600MHz and 1866MHz. The 1866MHz version will be a bit faster, but I’m not entirely convinced that you’d notice the difference in a game.
Kingston offers a phenomenal set of RAM here.
But if moneys a bit tight, the slightly slower RAM is still very good, and easily quick enough for any game you’d want to play.
Corsair Vengeance 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3 Memory

The Vengeance series used to come in a wider range of memory size options, but right now I can only find the 8GB (2x4GB) kit available online.
Despite this, the Vengeance series is another excellent set of RAM. It has the standard but still splendid speed of 1600MHz. Which will be more than quick enough for any games you want to play.
This model also has a “heat sink” a similar idea to the “heat spreader” design on the HyperX Fury. Which works to keep the Vengeance as cool as possible while you’re playing, this is a nice touch as any components which end up getting too hot will inevitably have their lives shortened.
The one downside to the Corsair is that some of the models can be a little long and can sometimes end up blocking additional components in your PC if you’re trying to put them in. For most people, this will only be a problem if you’re doing a lot of customization, but it’s still something to bear in mind.
Overall the Corsair Vengeance is a great option, although it’s not quite as economical as the Ballistix Sport, nor does it have the speed options of the HyperX Fury.
G.Skill 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 Memory
|G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model...||Check Price|

The Ripjaws series of RAM is one that a lot of people who like to overclock their RAM and build their PCs love. It’s highly customizable, so if you’re into that kind of thing, this might be the RAM for you.
It offers the standard 1600MHz speed and comes with a heat sink designed to keep the unit as cool as possible.
I like the way the RAM looks. It’s very red and black and looks a bit like it’s been designed by Satan. But I think it looks pretty badass.
Devotees of G.Skill claim that the Ripjaws series is faster than equivalent kits of RAM. While there may be something in this, the amount of difference is probably pretty negligible when playing.
The major downside of this stick, is that it tends to be more expensive than the very good ones we’ve looked at above. Unless you manage to pick this up for cheap, it’s probably not worth the difference in price.
Patriot Signature DDR3 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) Memory

The Patriot Signature is an affordable piece of RAM that provides the standard 1600MHz speed.
It’s not particularly good looking.
And it’s not the fastest set we’ve looked at either.
But it’s a well-priced stick of RAM that in most instances should do the job.
One concern that has come up with the Signature when I’ve been researching it is that it might be a little less reliable than some of the other options on this list.
I’m not saying that it has massive issues with reliability.
But just that there have been reports of some problems. The thing is that all of the other products we’ve looked at above have no problems with reliability at all. So it means there’s not much of a reason to choose the Signature over these.
So while the Signature is a pretty decent set of RAM, nothing about it really stands out and the concerns about reliability mean that I probably wouldn’t bother picking any up.
Overall, choosing the right gaming memory for your PC might be hard, especially if you’re new to it. There are so many things to look for when purchasing RAM, the number of volts, the speed, the CAS latency and the compatibility with your motherboard.
